History of the Ironman Race

Hello! I thought that first you should know a little bit about the history of the Ironman race.

The Hawaiian Ironman was invented by Navy Commander John Collins in 1978. The race consists of a 2.4 mile swim, 112 mile bike, and a 26.2 mile run. The first official race was held February 18th, 1978. There were 15 people who started it and only 12 were able to finish. Gordon Haller was the first person to finish the race. He completed it in 11 hours, 46 minutes, and 58 seconds. In the famous words of Commander John Collins "Swim 2.4 miles, Bike 112 miles, Run 26.2 miles, Brag for the Rest of your Life."
